About
BIO
While Deb Carpenter’s degree is in Business Management and Information Systems, she discovered the arts late in life. She did some sketching as a teenager and in her early twenties, but it wasn’t until 2006 when she discovered the liquid form of art in a college course on Landscape painting with Watercolor. This first class involved using the opaque method, a mixture of watercolor and gouache; more recently she is using the more traditional watercolor method. In 2009, she started working with Oils on canvas and by 2013 she added acrylics to her portfolio. She is currently working with Acrylic and Watercolors, but does still have some oil paintings in her inventory.
In 2010, Deb had her first solo show at the Guilderland Library. She has since shown her work at the Arkell Museum, 1st Night events in both Albany, Schenectady and Troy, Colonie Library, SCCC, Niskayuna Library, Rotterdam Library, Cooperstown Art Gallery, Haggaman Annual Art Show, American Italian Heritage Museum, online Heaven Art Gallery, Mabee Farms, Turf Tavern Restaurant, and several other locations in the tri-city area.
While serving as President for SAS, the group partnered with the City of Schenectady on a city-wide art project. This involved painting designs on the traffic light control boxes found on the city’s street corners. Each design was created by an SAS member and approved by City officials. In addition to the City project, the group had also volunteered with several community projects: a Mural at the Boys & Girls Club of Schenectady, Sign at the Helderberg Ambulance Squad in Berne NY, and a Mural at Woodlawn Park in Schenectady NY.
Deb has taught several classes using acrylic paints at the Albany Curling Club, Mabee Farms (plein air), Niskayuna Senior Center, residential classes, and at the Blooming Artist Gallery in Clifton Park NY.
Artist Statement
Primarily a landscape artist, I have been known to include some architecture with some unique perspectives as well as animal life both near and far.
Starting in the arts late in life, it quickly became my passion. Whether it’s reproducing an image or simply moving paint around, the act of creating a mood inspires me to keep painting. I generally paint from photographs, but also do some plein air paintings from time to time.
While I love the creativity of just moving painting around, my true passion is when I see a composition that provokes emotion. When this happens, I already have a title for it so I just have to paint it
“ART defined: Let it bring a smile and warm your soul. If only for a brief moment, let it last a lifetime!”
